Dongle vs. Software license - Which to take?

Post by tobias_raab »

Hey all!

As mentioned in Hannover, we should make use of this forum for any license related questions as more of us might have to same questions in mind.

My current setup for developing in WinCC OA is a VM on my notebook.
As the dongle solution is the prefered one, I'd like to know if it will work in this scenario and what prerequisites I have to meet?
Do I have to install a license server on my notebook to have the license available in the VM?

Best regards,
Tobias

Can you please give us the information which WinCC OA version you are using.
In WinCC OA 3.17 the license functionality has changed and therefore there a lot of changes compared to previous versions.

Hello Tobias.

If you can put your USB Device (Dongle) "through" to the VM - so the license check can access it - everything should work.
Please note that this is not the recommended scenario.

If you encounter any trouble you can alternatively
a) install CodeMeter via WinCC OA Setup or
b) download the CodeMeter software independently from Wibu to set up the license server on your notebook.
The VM just needs to reach the IP of the server internally then.

Best regards, Robert

PS: I will contact you for the other issue next week, happy weekend till then.
