Performance of Blinking Colors with CSS

Post by dbindernagel »

Dear Forum,

I have a question about the following statement from the documentation:
Please note that using style sheets in combination with blinking colors will cause a decrease in over-all performance. This only applies to graphical objects which use style sheets.
I'm not sure how I should interpret this statement. What exactly is this combination?

1. As fare as I know you cannot set blinking colors using stylesheets.
I know of the oa-color() function, but if you select a blinking color, only the "first" color gets set as a static color to the property.

2. Does it apply to widgets that have a blinking color set?

3. I tried testing it but was not really successful.
I have put multiple labels (not PRIMITVE_TEXT) into a panel, gave them all a blinking color and then changed some other properties (e.g. border) with CSS. This did not cause a performance decrease; at least not that I could see visibly or by checking the CPU load.

Does anyone know what exactly triggers the effect of performance decrease and how big this effect really is?

Thanks for the help.

BR
Dennis
