back to the original question you can also create a control script and use the pmon functions, there are quite a few which give you all the details about managers: pmonGetName, pmonGetState, ...

If the _Driver<num> datapoint does not exist an error is written to the PVSS_II.log file at startup by the driver itself.
There is no script running which checks if the _Driver<num> datapoints exist. Also there is no script running to set the "DT" element for the _Driver<num> datapoint. The driver writes the information on its own.
