Hallo,

mit dem neuen CODEMETER-Softwareschutz läuft WinCC OA nach einem Verlieren des Dongles oder der Verbindung zum Dongleserver nur noch 4 Stunden (Emergency-Periode). Bislang waren es 7 Tage!

„Ein Abstecken des Dongle im Betrieb (bzw. ein kaputter Dongle) wird von WinCC OA automatisch erkannt und es können keine Parametrierungen mehr vorgenommen werden (kein Start eines GEDI oder PARA möglich)! Das Projekt ist dann nur mehr 7 Tage lauffähig (wenn es zuvor auf dem Rechner mindestens einmal mit gültiger Lizenz gestartet wurde).“

Schon im Normalfall sind 4 Stunden zu kurz, um z. B. am Wochenende oder nachts entsprechende IT-Mitarbeiter zu alarmieren und das Problem zu beheben. Anfahrzeiten zu dezentralen Anlagen noch nicht eingerechnet. Weiterhin problematisch autarke Anlagen ohne Fernwartungszugang oder Zugangsbeschränkung.

Im Katastrophen- oder Krisenfall wird das noch verschärft. Ich denke da konkret an Hochwasser oder, wie jetzt aktuell an die Corona-Krise. Hier müssen viele Dinge in kurzer Zeit und mit zu wenig Personal organisiert werden. Ein gerade nicht mehr erkannter Dongle sollte da nicht die höchste Priorität haben müssen.

Nach nur 4 Stunden steht das System - eine in der Tat massive Beeinträchtigung der Verfügbarkeit!

Im Januar in Hannover und später wurde eine Verlängerung der Laufzeit ohne Dongle diskutiert und auch von ETM positiv signalisiert.

Wie ist der aktuelle Status zu diesem Thema?

With the new CODEMETER software protection, WinCC OA only runs for 4 hours after losing the dongle or the connection to the dongle server. Until version 3.16 it was 7 days!
Now, the system stops after only 4 hours. This is a significant impairment of availability!
In January in Hanover and later, an extension of the runtime without a dongle was discussed and also signaled positively by ETM. What is the current status on this topic?

The idea of reducing the time period was that our customers are now able to shift the license on their own if the hardware needs to replaced.
With the licensing technology used up to 3.16 this was not possible as our customers needed to contact ETM if they want to shift the license.

To avoid a problem when using a license server we recommend to use a local software container to store the license for a specific machine.

We are aware of this restriction in WinCC OA 3.17 and it is still in discussion with our head of development and the product management how to deal with this situation in future.
When the changes will be implemented is not defined right now as the changes must be synchronized with the release cycle of WinCC OA patches.

We use WinCC OA on virtual servers. It is therefore not known on which hardware the software runs.
That is why dongles were installed on an SEH dongle server.
