Networking at the WinCC OA User Days in London

Once again this year, the WinCC OA User Days were a resounding success. Around 280 international customers and partners took up the invitation to attend the thirteenth WinCC OA User Days in London.

Participants had the opportunity to get to know the latest developments surrounding the SCADA system SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture (WinCC OA). They also took advantage of the many opportunities offered to get together and exchange news and views with experts and other WinCC OA users on current topics and future challenges.

Insights into the Scada world through the management

Siemens UK & Ireland Chief Executive, Juergen Maier, delivered an opening speech celebrating the 140bn investment the UK is making in its infrastructure and energy sources over the next five years, with projects such as Crossrail, Thameslink and the Heathrow/Gatwick airport expansions.

The Head of SIMATIC SCADA Bernhard Reichl spoke about the sustainable growth in Scada sales compared to the market due to trustful partnerships and WinCC OAs long term reliability.

Bernhard Staufer, Head of Business Development SIMATIC SCADA, focused on the challenges in the industrial environment and the topic IOT (Internet of things). He also introduced the latest WinCC OA Partners and presented a number of recently implemented projects.

The director of WinCC OA development, Elisabeth Bakany, delivered a presentation of research projects in the field of Scada, and provided listeners with an insight into modern scripting and SmartSCADA.

Outlook of the new features in Version 3.15

Lukas Schopp, Product manager for WinCC OA has unveiled plans for version 3.15 of the industry-leading supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software, SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture (WinCC OA), which includes many of the most sought-after feature updates requested by product users.

Some notable additions include: SmartSCADA with e.g. a KPI wizard, JavaScript widget allowing users to write new widgets for WinCC OA, object-oriented panels with a scriptable interface and the ability to define public functions, and object orientation in the WinCC OA own scripting language. Other features added following user feedback include performance statements, persistent and conditional breakpoints for debugging, plus layout enhancements.

The product manager also outlined what would be available in the latest V3.14 patch to be released in May 2016. A mobile User Interface (UI) for iOS and Android, which is currently in beta, will be refined with adaptive design for different device classes. Classes are self-defined, so each user can configure which elements they see on their smartphone, tablet, and PC interfaces.

Lukas Schopp said: We value customer feedback highly and the inclusion of these new features demonstrates our commitment to creating products that help drive operational efficiencies to improve performance across industry. We were delighted to welcome so many delegates from around the world and feel the attendance at the event is true testament to the popularity and far-reaching benefits of WinCC OA.

Siemens will be demonstrating WinCC OA V3.15 at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg this November. For more information on the product, visit www.siemens.de/wincc-open-architecture
