Retrospective: Success at the SPS IPC Drives 2014

Once again in this jubilee year, the SPS IPC Drives provided undisputable evidence of its position as the lead fair for the electrical automation industry. No fewer than 56,787 visitors had the chance to engage the 1,602 exhibitors in in-depth specialist discussions about the latest developments and trends in electrical automation technology.

This year was the first time visitors to the SPS IPC Drives had the chance to glean more information in an exclusive joint SCADA lounge about added value with the SCADA systems SIMATIC SCADA WinCC V7 and SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture.

The partner F&S Prozessautomation showcased its solution for the offshore wind park sea wind South/East. OSMO Anlagenbau GmbH & Co. KG demonstrated a video management system used in a tunnel control center in Hanover. Austrian WinCC OA Solution Partner enet GmbH presented its central system for the monitoring and optimization of district heating plants. Swiss partner LeitTec AG was present with information about its “Visualization and operating system for railways in compliance with SIL2”.

The WinCC Center of Competence Mannheim presented a solution from the pharmaceutical world for order administration and batch-specific archiving. In addition, three certified WinCC specialists presented SCADA solutions from different fields of industry. The Trips Group showcased a paint shop for plastic bumpers in the automotive industry. Focus Industrieautomation GmbH was on hand to provide information on the subject of process tracking and optimization. The benefits of a function library for the process industry and the field of HVAC were demonstrated by AGU Planungsgesellschaft mbH using the example of a water supply plant.

The SCADA Innovation zone featured a host of SCADA-related innovations, and allowed visitors to experience the latest developments live. There was a particular focus on flexible operating concepts for mobile devices such as tablets or smart phones. Alongside the WinCC OA OPERATOR app, another interesting feature on show here was the WinCC OA Ultralight Client. The highlight of WinCC V7 was the new WinCC/WebUX option for platform-independent and browser-independent access to plant information. Using a SIMATIC 677D, visitors had the chance to gain a first-hand impression of the possibilities of intuitive operating concepts with multitouch gestures.

The wide-ranging scope offered by the SCADA systems SIMATIC WinCC V7.3 and WinCC Open Architecture V3.13 was also presented at the Siemens booth. The new version 3.13 is due to be released to all SCADA users over the course within the next days.

The lounge proved a popular attraction, and allowed visitors to enjoy in-depth discussion with high-level technical experts on wide-ranging solution concepts in a relaxed atmosphere. All in all, this made the SCADA lounge a resounding success. The SIMATIC SCADA team looks forward to welcoming its customers, partners and interested visitors to the SCADA lounge again next year.
