Sneak preview of version 3.12 at the WinCC OA User Days 2013 in Munich

The WinCC OA User Days 2013 marked the tenth anniversary of this ever-popular event. This year’s gathering saw 220 members of the WinCC OA community make the journey to the Bavarian capital Munich to glean information and hear the latest news surrounding the Scada System Simatic WinCC Open Architecture.

The event was formally opened by the ETM CEO Bernhard Reichl. He handed over to Roland Melzer, Head of the Industry Automation Systems Software Business Segment, who elaborated on the importance of software in production processes and consequently also within the Siemens portfolio. Bernhard Staufer, Director Sales & Marketing and Oliver Thürk, Director WinCC OA Center of Competence Germany, then took the floor to introduce the new members of the WinCC OA Partner family and present selected reference projects. Another focus of Bernhard Staufer’s presentation was the positioning of Simatic WinCC Open Architecture within the Simatic HMI portfolio, and the international development of the Scada market. Linking into this theme, he then went on to present focus activities aimed at securing the continued success of Simatic WinCC Open Architecture in the international software market. The next speaker was Bernhard Reichl, who talked about the development of Simatic WinCC Open Architecture and its alignment to future market demands.

The innovations in Simatic WinCC Open Architecture Version 3.12
After the break, WinCC OA Product Manager Lukas Schopp took the floor with a presentation of which requirements are currently fulfilled and those covered by the new version 3.12. The subsequent questions from the floor clearly indicated the overwhelming interest of participants in the issues of mobility, openness and independence. The subsequently staged workshops offered plenty of opportunity to talk shop about all of these issues.
There were also a number of customers and partners on hand to talk about successfully implemented projects using Simatic WinCC Open Architecture. During the afternoon, participants had the opportunity to exchange views about the new demands made on Simatic WinCC Open Architecture with the Head of Development Günther Zoffmann and Product Manager Lukas Schopp.

Partner present their solutions with Simatic WinCC Open Architecture
Alongside the many lectures and workshops on offer, a “mini exhibition” was also staged featuring innovative solutions based on Simatic WinCC Open Architecture presented by some of the international WinCC OA partners. Visitors took advantage of the opportunity to network with other participants or to visit the exhibition during the breaks.
After a busy day absorbing this wealth of information and exchanging ideas, the first day was rounded off in typically Bavarian style in the hospitable surroundings of the Weihenstephan beer tavern. A performance by the traditional Schuhplattler dance troupe caused a few jaws to drop among the international clientele. Enjoying locally brewed beer and pretzels, the WinCC OA Community was offered plenty of opportunity to renew old contacts and meet new WinCC OA users.

On the second day each participant chose an individual program
Alongside a workshop staged by WinCC OA Premium Solution Partner Accellence Technologies GmbH on the subject of “Video in WinCC OA”, another topic on offer was the range of new mobile solutions available using Simatic WinCC Open Architecture. The workshop “WinCC OA on mobile devices” offered participants the chance to find out more about the new app and the Ultralight Client. The workshop “Simulation center for oil & gas processes” presented by Siemens AG Austria was another well-attended option. Of particular interest was a guided tour of the Munich’s Traffic Management Center, which offered visitors the unique chance to become acquainted with Simatic WinCC Open Architecture used in a tunnel guidance system complete with integrated video surveillance.

After two superb days, the WinCC OA User Days 2013 in Munich passed off successfully.
The WinCC OA team went home bursting with new ideas and suggestions for the coming year. Let us wait and see where the User Days 2014 takes us – wherever it is, we look forward to seeing you there!
